Surgical Services

Features of the Surgery Department at LeConte

  • Four surgical suites, and two endoscopy suites
  • The four surgical suites are similarly equipped with:
    • integrated high-definition cameras and monitors for the best view of the surgical site
    • LED (green-energy efficient) lighting; and
    • built in towers to house necessary laparoscopic equipment.
  • The department features 22 private Ambulatory Staging Rooms (ASU). Patients remain in their ASU room with their family for all pre-op processes and interviews and proceed directly in their procedure from that room.
  • Each ASU room is equipped with a flat screen TV for patients to enjoy while they are waiting.

General Surgeons

A general surgeon generally has expertise in the diagnosis and care of patients with diseases and disorders affecting the abdomen, digestive tract, endocrine system, breast, skin, and blood vessels. General surgeons are also trained in the care of pediatric and cancer patients and in the treatment of patients who are injured or critically ill. Common problems treated by general surgeons include hernias, breast tumors, gallstones, appendicitis, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, colon inflammation, and colon cancer.

LeConte Surgical Associates is the general surgery practice at LeConte Medical Center. The physicians’ office is located in the Dr. Robert F. Cardiology (Heart)

Cardiology is the study of the heart and its functions in health and disease. Cardiologists (heart doctors) focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart disease.

Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine whereby the digestive system and its disorders are studied. Diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, which includes the organs from mouth ot anus, along the alimentary canal, are the focus of this specialty. Physicians practicing in this field of medicine are called gastroenterologists, and commonly are referred to as “GI” doctors.

Gynecology (Women’s Health)

Obstetricians & Gynecologists, commonly referred to as OB/GYNs, focus on women’s health needs before, during, and after pregnancy. They also provide medical and surgical treatment of the female reproductive and urinary systems.

Ophthalmology (Eye)

Ophthalmologists diagnose and treat disorders and diseases of the eye. At LeConte these physicians perform cataract removal surgeries and other eye-related procedures.

Orthopedics

Orthopedics is the study of the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons (also called Orthopedists or Orthopeds) specialize in surgical correction of problems of the musculoskeletal system. The musculoskeletal system includes: bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves.

Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, & Throat)

Otolaryngologists treat medical problems of the ears, nose, and throat, and provide surgical treatment when necessary. Often referred to as ENTs (ears, nose, and throat), these doctors service adults, as well as children.

Plastic Surgery

Plastic Surgeons provide treatment through reconstruction and cosmetic surgery.¬† It’s common in breast-cancer related surgeries for our general surgeons to work side-by-side with a plastic surgeon to prepare a patient for reconstructive surgery.

Podiatry (Foot Specialist)

Podiatry is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the human foot. Our Podiatrists often utilize LeConte Medical Center’s surgical services, as well as referring some of their patients on to LeConte Therapy Services for post-surgical treatment.

Urology

Urologists diagnose and treat diseases of the urinary tract and urogenital system. Our Urologists utilize our surgical services for correction of some conditions, and also offer Lithotripsy, for the treatment of kidney Stones.
